Soundtrack

All artists deserve to have their work properly cited when it is borrowed. So here is an overview of every song I have quoted, and I want to give full credit to the artists for these excellent lyrics. Additionally, for the artists that I listen to frequently, I have written a short bit about what they mean to me.

Adele
Someone Like You - "You know how time flies, only yesterday was the time of our lives." (Reflections 1)

Amy Hedges
Libertine - "The world is open wide like a door, like a fire it burns, embrace the flame - don't be ashamed of your desire to learn." (The Peony Pavilion)

Au Revoir Simone
The Lucky One - "A dream of togetherness, turned into a brighter mess." (Reflections 3)

The Bird And The Bee
My Love - "Hey boy, won't you take me out tonight? I get excited when I think of crawling into your arms." (I Want To Hold Your Hand)

Bloodhound Gang
Bad Touch - "You and me, baby, ain't nothin' but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel." (Very Sober Drunk Night)

Bowling For Soup: This is a bit of a nostalgia choice for me. For the most part, I only enjoy the songs from their 2004 album, "A Hangover You Don't Deserve," because this is the album that Jewel gave me when we were in the eighth grade. I still know most of the words to most of those songs, and listening to them is like comfort food.
Shut Up And Smile - "It's not the end of the world - in fact it's not even the end of the summer." (End Of An Era)

Bruno Mars
The Lazy Song - "Today I don't feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed." (Bleh)

Cody Simpson
Iyiyi - "Every minute, every second, every hour of the day I- every hour of the day I- every time that I'm away I-I'm missing you, you." (105 Days Before)

Dar Williams
Are You Out There? - "You never know who's still awake, you never know who understands and are you out there, can you hear this?" (Are You Out There?) "And when I turned your station on, you were more familiar than that party was." (This Weekend)
February - "First we forgot where we planted those bulbs last year, and then we forgot that we planted at all. Then we forgot what plants are altogether, and I blamed you for my freezing and forgetting and the nights were long and cold and scary..." (Reflections 4)

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros
Home - "Well hot and heavy, pumpkin pie, chocolate, candy, Jesus Christ - there ain't nothin' please me more than you." (Coming Home) "Home, let me come home. Home is whenever I'm with you." (The Return Trip)

Ellem
Inside Still Beats - "I'm one, I'm two, I'm three times all into you, but inside my heart it still beats." (Through The Grapevine)

Fall Out Boy: I don't remember who turned me on to Fall Out Boy, but they have a place in my heart as my first true favourite band. Indeed, when asked to choose, their song "Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner" still holds the title of my favourite song.
America's Suitehearts - "Wh- wh- why won't the world revolve around me?" (Jealousy)
What A Catch, Donnie - "I've got troubled thoughts and the self esteem to match, what a catch..." (Spiral)
Of All The Gin Joints In All The World - "I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive - now I only waste it dreaming of you." (81 Days Before)

A Fine Frenzy
You Picked Me - "Dots on a map, four, five, six, the two of us a perfect fit." (Lighthousehunting)

Fred Penner
The Cat Came Back - "The cat came back, the very next day, the cat came back, they thought he was a goner! But the cat came back, he just couldn't stay away..." (Evolution)

Gary Jules
Mad World - "I was very nervous, no one knew me. No one knew me." (Anxiety): This song doesn't have any strong meaning for me, but my little sister likes it. She is twelve, and until roughly last year she always just liked what I liked. So it's nice to see her own taste in music emerging.

Glee
Extraordinary Merry Christmas - "It's a very, very, merry, merry Christmas! It's an extraordinary merry Christmas!" (First Christmas of the Year)

Hey Rosetta!
New Goodbye - "What's to come only fate can show, see her move like a toreador, wielding her cloak and sword." (Skating With Hey Rosetta!)
Red Heart - "But you look so good when you're laughing you know, yeah you look so good when you let it show." (Get Happy)
Seeds - "And when it all comes in it's the biggest thing, it's the blooming night in the white of your bright blue eyes" (Yes Yes Yes) "The road bends long, like mothers' arms, reaching for these four black tires." (Montreal 1)

Last Friday Night - "Trying to connect the dots, don't know what to tell my boss." (Drunk v.4)
Teenage Dream - "Lets go all the way tonight - no regrets, just love." (Eight)

Ke$ha: I love Ke$ha. I will never deny this. Her music is a guilty pleasure of mine. She may not display a lot of her vocal talents in her auto-tuned dance songs, but I respect her as an artist and I consider myself a fan.
Crazy Beautiful Life - "Every single night we fight to get a little high on life." (Montreal 2) "With the parties - the disasters - with my friends all pretty and plastered." (Drunk v.3) "I just hope some people see there's nothing I'm trying to be." (Still Here)
Grow A Pear - "You were cool and now you're not, just like that." (Talking To Gaga)

Kerli
Walking On Air - "Know that you could set your world on fire, if you are strong enough to leave your doubts." (A Break?)

Kimya Dawson: Probably the best thing about the movie Juno is the fact that it brought me to Kimya Dawson. Her songs are so simple, but the lyrics in all of them are so powerful to me.

I Like Giants - "And I do this to remind me that I'm really, really tiny in the grand scheme of things and sometimes this terrifies me, but it's only really scary cause it makes me feel serene in a way I never thought I'd be." (Running Naked...)
I Miss You - "I don't need to, but I want to, sing with you, 'cause I miss you." (I Miss You)
The Competition - "I just wanted to prove wrong the people in my head [...] But first thing in the morning I'd still wake up and I'd hear them say: 'you're fat ugly and stupid, you should really be ashamed, no one will ever like you, you're not good at anything'. And sometimes I'd rise to the challenge, but other times I'd feel so bad that I could not get out of bed." (Lately)

Last Night I Dreamed You Didn't Love Me - "You kissed my fingers and you made me love you." (That L Word Again)

Vampire Weekend: I love the way they allow classical instruments to influence their songs. The lyrics don't make a lot of sense to me as a whole, but a lot of individual lines will grab me and they won't let go. Here comes a feeling you thought you'd forgotten...
